Mid-July we had the opportunity to to the beach for a relaxing vacation. The goal was to get refreshed and spend some time as a family. . . something we really needed. Thursday, we got to Morro Bay and relaxed around the house until the San Luis farmer's Market. We had never had the opportunity to go to that one. It was a lot of fun. They crazy street performers at every intersection. Jon enjoyed the Lord of the Cello, a kilt wearing, crazy man playing a cello. Ethan's favorite was probably the crazy unicycle and flame juggler. It was a really fun night . . . especially because we got to meet up with our friend's the Mikow's -- who were also on vacation in Pismo at the same time! (We really loved that our vacations overlapped!).
The next day, we headed out to Pismo for some outlet store shopping and beach playing. We met up at Josh and Stephanie's fancy camping site and had lunch and had some beach fun! Jon and Josh took the kids out first while Steph and I fed the little one's. They had so much fun building their moat. . . so much fun that as the tide came in it actually worked. They even had an audience! Weston had his first feet in the sand experience, which he was okay with. . . just did not like the wind at all! After we got everyone cleaned up, we headed to McKlintocks for some major food eating! We had a lot of fun playing in the "stable" (a toy horse) and taking pictures. We even tried to look for a geocache, but there were too many muggles. On the way back to Josh and Steph's, we took some time to play at Dinosaur Park, where we were successful in a geocahe hunt (yay, us!). We hung out for a bit at Josh and Steph's roasting marshmallows until it was time for bed (the kids started fighting over toys. . . I think they were worn out!). Then, we headed back to our temporary beach home.
Saturday, brought a VERY relaxing day of doing not much. It was great! My parents came over for the day and so we got to have a yummy lunch with them and walk around Morro Bay. Ethan picked out a ton of shells at The Shell Shop (for the record. . . he is obsessed with sea shells right now. . . especially starfish!).
We sadly packed up our stuff and headed home to our busy lives, but not without one more family walk on the beach. Ethan collected every shell he could find and spent some time touching the really cool tree outside the house.
It was a great weekend and it felt great to have a break from the business of our regular lives (and from the heat!).
