Last year, we started the tradition of getting up super early and watching the hot air balloons go up, which is part of the annual Clovis Fest celebration. This year, we were also really tired because we had just celebrated Ethan's birthday party the night before. It was also Ethan's first soccer game, which made for a very exhausting morning! But, we did it. . . and it was worth it! (this time, we even managed to take our friends, the Mikow's into joining us!). I got up early and stuck the cinnamon rolls in the oven (don't be too impressed, they were Pilsbury!) and got ready. Watching the sun rise with these gigantic balloons blowing up is a super beautiful thing. . . It totally makes getting up early worth it!

Happy Birthday to Ethan!
Here it is October and I am just getting to Ethan's birthday party! WOW! I know. . . i will get caught up soon. . . I promise. Ethan and his very special girl friend, Abi have birthdays just shy of 2 weeks apart. Abi's mommy (who also happens to be one of my very best friends) and I decided that a third birthday is the perfect birthday to celebrate together with a joint birthday party. We went with a monkey theme. . . considering both kids are monkeys and love Curious George and the monkeys at the zoo. We also loved the turquoise and yellow colors scheme.
This sign hung above Ethan's presents. Abi had one just like it above hers.
Ethan in his 3 shirt. . . I had a hard time getting him to stand still to show it off. It has sock monkeys on it.
Weston had fun hanging out in the grass while we finished setting things up.

Stephanie worked hard to blow up the monkey for our photo booth.

Our lil' Ring Bearer
Our small group has been blessed with a really fun, engaged couple who said their "I do's" last month. Ethan just adores Jeff and Catherine! And they love him back, which is great! Then even asked him to be in their wedding, an so our little "Big" boy was in his first wedding. The flower girl was his best friend, Abi, which made it is super fun day!
Ethan and Abi giving Jeff (the groom) a big hug after the rehearsal.
Ethan and his daddy. . . aren't they good lookin!
The flower girl, Abi. Isn't she cute!!!!
Ethan and Abi spent some time watching movies on the Ipad. . . a great way to kill some time during pictures.
And when you get tired of movies, there's funny face making time.
Weston, looking oh, so cute!
Doing a little dance before the wedding starts.
Ethan with the bride and groom (I got the picture off their facebook page. . . it was just so cute!

Ethan turns 3!!!!
I can't believe that Ethan is 3! Ethan's birthday was the day after we arrived home from Cambira. I really wanted to make it a fun, special day since it was the day after getting home from vacation and 2 weeks away from his party-day. So, we had Abi over for lunch and a craft. Jon picked out Cars themed birthday napkins and wooden cars that you could paint. I made cupcakes for him to blow out. It was fun!
Then, we went out to dinner to celebrate at 5 Guys, because Ethan's favorite thing in the whole world is french fries and they make pretty good ones. Then we had Fro-Yo at Yogurtland, walked around the Farmer's Market and played on the playground (all his picks!).
Then, we came home and had ice cream and cake. He of course wanted to blow out candles. . . another one of his favorite things!
Next year, I think I am just going to put some frosting in a cupcake holder and stick a candle in it, because that's really all he eats! :)
Happy Birthday, Ethan! You are a joy to your mommy and daddy!

Labor Day Weekend 20011 {Cambria}
Every year Jon's family has gathered over Labor Day weekend for a fun, relaxing time of hanging out, tournaments, and food. This was the last official year of the tradition and due to the family's growing number we had to move to Cambria in order to find a house big enough to accommodate such a large crowd. Jon's grandparents have graciously put together this weekend for a long time (seriously. . . a long time!). Jon's grandma has also spent a lot of time putting together a really neat album of all the Labor Day Weekends of past. It is really neat to look at and see how Jon's life has changed over the years. . .going from childhood, to adulthood as a bachelor and then as a husband and father. I know that there are plans in the works for the tradition to carry on, which is very exciting. Here are some of the highlights of our weekend:
:: Jon, being the hard worker that he is, needed to check in to his University of Phoenix Class and post comments to his students while we were there. Our plans were to head to Main Street and grab some coffee and the kids and I would roam the streets while Jon worked on schoolwork. Unfortunately there was a HUGE parade and you couldn't even get onto Main Street, much less park anywhere (Seriously, people were parked on the sides of Highway 1 and walking to Main Street!). So, we headed to Moonstone Beach to see if we could find some open wifi at one of the beachfront hotels along the road. Thankfully, we did. So, Jon worked on schoolwork in the car, Weston took his morning nap in the car and Ethan and I went on an a walk down the boardwalk, beach, and saw some tide pools. I love this picture of Ethan!
On our walk, I decided to try out the automatic part of the camera, and I loved how this picture came out. Ethan and Wanda (his great grandma, AKA Nanny) celebrated their birthday (both are September 6th) with cake and ice cream (err. . . melted ice cream. . .what was thought to be a freezer was actually a refrigerator. . . poor ice cream!).
Ethan loves (I mean LOVES to blow out candles. . .
Sunday we took a drive into Cayucus to go to the Peddler's Fair and spend our money on something great and wonderful (Uhhh. . . . not a whole lot of good stuff this year!). Jon also was able to find some hotspots to work on school stuff while I fed Weston in the car. It was a beautiful day for Ethan and I to take a walk on the beach.
Right now he's a little cautious of the water and loud, crashing waves. . . this was as far as he would go before running back to the pier to find Jon and Weston.
Brady, our nephew, celebrated his first birthday on the 4th. We had a fun celebration at the park. Kelley's mom, Diane, made this adorable teddy bear cake for his birthday. . . unfortunately, Brady never got to taste it, because the sea gulls beat him to it. It was a SAD moment!
Ethan had fun running around in the grass. There was soccer playing and chasing to be had. For a little bit, Ethan decided to lay down and play with the grass.
Brady got to eat a cupcake. . . I think he liked it!
What Labor Day weekend would be complete without a tournament? Thanks to the ping pong table in the garage, we were able to keep the tradition and compete against each other. . . brackets and all! I will confess, I didn't make it past the first round, however, Jon won the tournament! Apparently, he's quite the ping pong player!
Ethan, Brady, Carolyn, and Wanda hanging out watching the tournament. Well, I think Brady is asleep, despite the noise!
There was also some silliness with some wigs that were brought by Wanda. Jon, Matt, and Dan had fun trying them on!
Here's a cute picture of Weston on our last walk on the beach.
Ethan and his Daddy. . . I LOVE this one!
The whole gang. . . .
and a nice 3 generations of Klassen men. Rich, Ethan, and Jon.
It was so much fun! Thanks so much to Gene and Wanda for making it all happen all these years! The memories created are an amazing gift!
